Artist and former 3D Design graduate, Chava Rosenweig’s wall installation, “A Star Shall Stride”, is currently installed at the Imperial War Museum North. The work was commisioned for Holocaust Memorial Day in 2013.
The ceramic work, made up of hundred’s of stars, distorted through firing in a gas kiln, explores the way the holocaust has affected the lives of third and fourth generation descendants. The star, a symbol of Jewish pride which was re-appropriated by the Nazis as a symbol of humiliation, is used as the key emblem. One of the stars bears the Auschwitz camp identity number of Rosenweig’s Grandmother. The remainder are blank ‘allowing viewers to consider how their own families have been shaped by 20th-century conflict.’
Chava produces works for exhibition and commission from her Manchester based studio.
