Keeping you up to date with the all the latest work from students, staff, and graduates of the programme, and highlighting the best work & events for 3D Designers from around the world.
Make sure you get to the GNCCF this weekend, open Friday – Sunday at the Old Granada Studios, Quay Street, Manchester, M3 4PR. Featuring numerous recent and former graduates of the 3D programme it is well worth a visit. The show is set in the stunning venue of the old Granada TV studios (which is worth the visit alone) and showcases the work of 160 designer makers across a range of craft practices and disciplines.
Amongst these are former graduates Mari-Ruth Oda (ceramics), Kira Meyer (glass), Jane Blease (lighting), Miriam Jones (wood & wearable – tipped as one to watch by selector Dominique Corlett), Tone von Krogh (ceramics), Amy Daniels (ceramics), Katherine Lees (ceramics), Katie Askwith (lighting) and Jill Shaddock (ceramics).
Showing on the selected Great Northern Graduates stand were class of 2014 graduates Megan Ochedusko (jewellery), Siobhan Doran (jewellery) and Felix Bell (product design). All three were awarded the opportunity as recipients of the GNCCF exhibition prize at last years degree show.
Makers Dozen, featuring ten graduates from 3D Design working out of studios across Manchester, including our current teaching assistants Joe Hartley and Elle Simms, presented a beautifully curated stand of products, furniture, jewellery, lighting and ceramics.
The event also launched ‘Ornament’ a curated exhibition of collectible craft from some of the UK’s most eminent makers, including Stephen Dixon, Research Professor at the School of Art. Look out for the stunning Caroline Broadhead prints featured in this show. And, level 4 students might recognise pots by Walter Keeler similar to those they were handling in this weeks ‘Object to Origin’ session.
This is a fantastic opportunity for primary contextual research to extend and support this element of submission across all units of study, so build in a visit this weekend. Our graduates look forward to seeing you there!
