Last week we were joined by students from Product Design at ArtEz (Arnhem in the Netherlands) for a 2 day workshop as part of Design Manchester. The workshop and project entitled Opiso City focused around ways of sensing the city in response to Manchester’s Pomona Island. We based ourselves off site at Insitu architectural Salvage in Hulme, also exploring the island with MA Landscape Architecture Students and linking up with Joe Hartley at his workshop at Pheonix House. Students worked in mixed groups to rethink the planned development for Pomona and possible ways to effect a renewed way of seeing and living in the city.
The students work was exhibited as part of a Salon event at The Pilcrow Pub hosted by the LiFE ‘Living in Future Ecologies’ research group alongside the launch of the book Fruitful Futures: Imaging Pomona that invited researchers, the Pomona community and MA students to also respond to Pomona Island as well as showcasing our 1st and 2nd year pre-Pomona project ‘Sensing the City’. A fantastic workshop experience for the students and final Salon event to celebrate the ‘fruitful’ few days with ArtEz !
